James Oesi – Kamerata Zuid conducted by Etienne Siebens

Festival founder James Oesi is a musician always searching for new musical paths and collaborations. With the innovative Tilburg chamber orchestra Kamerata Zuid James will be performing his own arrangements of music written entirely by composers from the African diaspora. Think of composers such as Abdullah Ibrahim, Florence Price, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Joseph Bologne. A mix of different styles such as jazz, classical and spirituals. The high point of the programme is the premiere of a brand new double bass concerto written by bassist and composer Derrick Hodge, who – uncoincidentally – performed at the last edition of Dutch Double Bass Festival where he and Oesi first came into contact. Kamerata Zuid will be lead by conductor Etienne Siebens, also a former bassist!
