Dominik Wagner’s ambition is to take the bass out of the cello’s shadow, a goal that this young viennese bassist seems to be achieving extremely well! The 25 year old already performs as a soloist across the world, both in front of orchestras and in duo formation and solo. Wagner has won almost every double bass competition there is and in the words of the Süddeutsche Zeitung: “Dominik Wagner aims to liberate his instrument from its existence in the shadow of the cello, and present new facets of the double bass. He succeeds not only with an engaging stage presence, impressive virtuosity and vocal melodic delivery, but also with a tireless commitment to expanding the repertoire, whether through commissions or his own arrangements.“
At Dutch Double Bass Festival he will be performing with prized Ukranian pianist Polina Sasko.
