Dario Calderone

A disciple of the 20th century’s most influential and important contemporary music bass player Stefano Scodanibbio, Dario Calderone has been following in his mentor’s footsteps and furthering his legacy. Described by the press as “Breathtaking” and “Phenomenal” italian bassist, sound artist and improviser Dario Calderone has played a crucial role in developing new repertoire for solo double bass. As an internationally acclaimed performer Calderone has premiered several pieces especially composed for him all over the world and from 2009 to 2019 he has been the bass player of the Nieuw Ensemble (NL), and regularly collaborated with Klangforum Wien (AU). Calderone’s own compositions have been supported by the Fonds Podiumkunsten, the Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunsten, and SENA, and his installations were presented at GNAM in Rome and Manifesta in Palermo. For DDBF Dario will be bringing his production of Stefano Scodanibbio’s Voyage That Never Ends. The work, considered by many to be Scodanibbio’s magnum opus, was taught to Calderone personally by Scodanibbio a few years before his passing.
